If You Want Results, Where Do You Want Your Joy to Come From?

Jan 12, 2026

I often hear people say things like:

“Oh, I feel bad for you… you’re just eating fruits and vegetables.”

“I’d rather enjoy my life and eat whatever I want.”

And here’s the interesting part:

It doesn’t sting.

I don’t feel judged.

I don’t feel deprived.

But I do genuinely wonder about something deeper:

If you want results… where do you want your joy to come from?

Because this isn’t about fruits or vegetables.

This isn’t about being “good” or “disciplined.”

And it definitely isn’t about missing out.

This is about the source of your joy — and whether it’s helping you become the person you want to be… or keeping you stuck.

Let’s talk about this through three powerful truths.

1. Food Joy Is Real — But It’s the Lowest Form of Joy

Food can bring joy.

A beautiful meal, a celebration, chai, dessert — all of it can bring comfort and connection.

But it’s temporary joy.

It lasts 10 minutes.

And sometimes, the “joy” comes with:

  • bloating
  • tiredness
  • guilt
  • inflammation
  • cravings
  • feeling out of control

So yes — enjoy food.

But don’t confuse momentary pleasure with true joy.

2. The Deeper Joy Comes from Results, Identity, and Self-Respect

There is a different kind of joy — a higher level — that most people don’t think about.

It’s the joy of:

  • waking up energized
  • liking what you see in the mirror
  • wearing clothes you love
  • keeping promises to yourself
  • feeling light in your body
  • moving without pain
  • eating without guilt
  • trusting yourself around food

This joy lasts all day, not 10 minutes.

When someone says “I’d rather enjoy my life,” what they usually mean is:

“I want dopamine now, and I don’t know how to create joy without food.”

But what if real joy wasn’t coming from what’s on your plate…

What if it came from how you feel in your entire life?

3. Results Require Choosing Your Source of Joy Intentionally

If your goal is:

  • weight loss
  • better labs
  • lower inflammation
  • more confidence
  • healthier habits

…then your joy has to come from the version of you you’re becoming — not from the habits that keep you stuck.

This isn’t “eat fruits and vegetables forever.”

It’s learning to choose the joy that supports your future instead of sacrificing your future for a few moments of pleasure.

Healthy habits do NOT remove joy.

They simply shift the source of joy.

Instead of:

  • dopamine from sugar
  • comfort from emotional eating

You get:

  • pride
  • progress
  • clarity
  • energy
  • strength
  • momentum

And that is a joy most people have forgotten how to feel.

Final Thought: You Get to Choose Your Joy

There is no judgment here.

You get to choose:

  • joy from food
  • joy from results
  • joy from confidence
  • joy from alignment

You get to decide which joy is worth more to you.

But when people comment that they “feel bad” seeing a healthy plate, I quietly think:

If you want results… where do you want your joy to come from?

Ten minutes of taste, or a lifetime of feeling good?

And the truth is:

You don’t have to give up joy to get results.

You just shift where you find it.
